University Launches New Institute
The University of Virginia recently launched a new Applied Research Institute (Institute) in the Town Center Two Building at the UVA Research Park.
UVA’s EVP & COO Leonard Sandridge’s vision of extending the academical village out to the Research Park is gaining momentum.
According to Tom Skalak, UVA’s VP for Research, “The Institute provides opportunities for faculty and students to assist government and industry with research projects in areas of national significance such as homeland and cyber security, green technologies and healthcare.”
With the expansion of the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) [already in the area] and the anticipated relocation of several units of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) to Charlottesville from Washington, DC, the Institute is actively seeking collaborative research relationships with NGIC, DIA and government contractors with whom those agencies work.
